Inside the workflow
Start with corner-symbol linework you draw or a symbol you import, then prepare it for dependable annotative use.
Symbol Upgrader is both a new-symbol preparation tool and a legacy-symbol repair tool. Draw a symbol from AutoCAD linework or import a symbol you like, make it a displayed block, and LABEL creates a new reusable annotative version with the visual anchor you choose and an optional background mask. The same workflow can correct an off-center insertion in an older symbol without overwriting the original.
What that means on a drawing
A surveyor can draw a new iron-pin marker or bring in a symbol from another source, display it as a block at the size and rotation they want, and select its intended corner point. Symbol Upgrader creates a uniquely named annotative version and can add a spacious, tight, or custom background mask. If the source is a familiar older symbol with a poor base point, the same process repairs that working anchor. The original block and its source definition remain untouched.
Detailed capabilities
- Prepares newly drawn or imported corner-symbol artwork after it is displayed as one AutoCAD block reference; it does not require the source to be an old or damaged symbol.
- Analyzes only the selected displayed reference rather than scanning or rewriting a symbol library.
- Measures the displayed symbol recursively and separates graphical marker bounds from text, attributes, and wipeouts before determining the footprint used for its new anchor.
- Normalizes a non-annotative source by its reference scale and active annotation scale, while avoiding double scaling when the source is already annotative.
- Preserves the displayed appearance and rotation at the calibration scale while translating the selected visual anchor to the new block origin.
- Creates a uniquely named annotative block definition and an optional comparison reference with copied attribute values.
- Offers Spacious masking at twice the graphical diameter, Tight masking at the symbol edge, or a Custom multiplier of 1.0 or greater.
- Preserves existing wipeouts in Automatic or Keep Existing mode and removes or rebuilds them only when the surveyor explicitly chooses Rebuild.
- Places a rebuilt 48-segment circular wipeout at the bottom of the block draw order.
- Verifies the upgraded graphical bounds and appearance fingerprint before commit and removes newly created objects if the comparison fails.
- Writes the standalone upgraded DWG through a temporary file, reopens it for verification, and moves it to its unique final name only after the checks pass.
- Holds nonuniform, mirrored, nonplanar, dynamic, anonymous, layout, external-reference, or otherwise unsupported references instead of applying a partial conversion.
- Records the source identity, chosen anchor, calibration scale, normalization, mask choice, and appearance fingerprints so Corner Labeler can recognize a valid repaired insertion as optional visual-symbol evidence.
How the surveyor uses it
- Draw the corner-symbol linework you want or import a symbol you like, then display it as an AutoCAD block at the appearance and scale you want to preserve.
- Select that displayed survey-symbol block.
- Review its measured graphical footprint and choose the visual point that should become the repaired insertion anchor.
- Choose Automatic, Keep Existing, Rebuild, Spacious, Tight, or Custom masking as applicable.
- Create and compare the new annotative reference while the original remains visible and unchanged.
- Keep, move, or delete the comparison reference and use the separately verified standalone upgraded DWG when the result is approved.
Symbol Upgrader changes presentation only. It does not move, repair, validate, or infer a boundary corner or COGO/PNode coordinate, and it cannot turn text, a wipeout, attributes, or graphical shape into monument evidence. The original reference, definition, drawing source, and symbol cache remain unchanged.
