ANGLE OPTIMIZER analyzes one surveyor-selected closed straight-course boundary. It keeps the original bearings and distances visible, calculates ordinary minute- or second-rounded calls, and compares only the nearby rounding alternatives that stay inside the surveyor's endpoint-swing tolerance.
What that means on a drawing
On a long course, changing a displayed bearing by a minute or even one second can move the endpoint farther than it does on a short course. ANGLE OPTIMIZER calculates that swing for every candidate, excludes choices outside the set tolerance, and shows the ordinary-rounded and closure-aware results together for review.
Detailed capabilities
- Reads one closed planar lightweight 2D polyline with at least three straight nonzero courses and rejects open or bulged input instead of approximating it.
- Offers nearest-minute or nearest-second bearing presentation with distances displayed to 0.01 foot.
- Calculates each course's original bearing, normal-rounded bearing, permitted closure-aware bearing, angular change, endpoint swing, distance, and candidate rule.
- Uses a surveyor-controlled per-course endpoint-swing tolerance, defaulting to 0.03 foot, as a hard limit on alternate rounding candidates.
- Compares the original, ordinary-rounded, and optimized closure vectors, closure bearings, and relative precision without replacing any of them.
- Discloses whether the candidate search was exhaustive or used the bounded beam method required for very large combinations.
- Lets the surveyor choose whether to draw the normal-rounded or closure-aware comparison result after reviewing the analysis.
- Draws the selected comparison as a separate open polyline and keeps the residual closure line, marker, and text visible on dedicated LABEL layers.
- Leaves the surveyor-selected source polyline unmodified.
How the surveyor uses it
- Select the exact closed straight-course 2D polyline to analyze.
- Choose minute or second bearing precision and confirm the permitted endpoint-swing tolerance.
- Review the course table showing original, ordinary-rounded, and closure-aware alternatives together with the swing and rule for each course.
- Compare all three closure summaries and the disclosed search method.
- If useful, explicitly choose one comparison to draw; otherwise close the analysis without adding comparison geometry.
ANGLE OPTIMIZER is a display-rounding comparison, not a legal correction, boundary adjustment, least-squares adjustment, or recommendation of authoritative calls. It never changes, closes, erases, or replaces the selected boundary. Every comparison stays separate and open with its residual gap visible, and the surveyor decides whether it has any drafting value.
